I live in Navarre Ohio. I'm 42.(2017)  I've been a woodworker since I was a lad.   I've made furniture, musical instruments stringed and wind, and smoking pipes.

My turkey call history is sort of a  "which came first" the turkey or the egg.  I've always been an outdoorsman. Fishing, camping,
Squirrel hunting and such.   But in the case of turkey hunting, my woodworking led to a desire to get gobblers. I remembered when I was a boy, seeing my uncle make and sell scratch box turkey calls.

One day I tried to remember how those calls were constructed. So I experimented making my own. I made some scratch boxes. Then I needed more of a challenge. So I started reading about different types of calls (slate, diaphragm, and box calls.   Well I didn't have any slate about.  The diaphragm weren't something I would want to make.  The idea of making a box call however grabbed my interest.

I'm a fine woodworker by nature. I could put much time and care into a box call. I'm very obsessive about my work. After making smoking pipes and music instruments, construction, finishes, and tones had become foremost to me.

So I started making box calls and never stopped. Always trying different designs and testing them out in the woods.  I plan on teaching myself how to make slate calls and different game calls in the future.

My business is McVay Originals. Up until now I've just sold on ebay.  I have a Facebook page and YouTube channel with that name.  Fair warning. If you visit my Facebook or YouTube,  both sites have sprinklings of humour in them.
