My name is Jacob Loos.  I am a behavior resource school teacher and a call maker.  I am supported by my parents, my understanding wife and two children. 

  I began making calls in the late 1990’s. One day while hunting my flute call split while working birds. After my hunt I went to the shop of Ron Wieneke and asked him to recreate the call. He told me he could not. I struggled to understand why because it was his call. 

 At this time I didn’t know that Ron was more of a commercial rather than a custom call maker.  Thus I went home and began working to create my own goose call. 

I had no experience with turning nor had anyone I knew. I fashioned my first two calls from plastic pipe. Very crude but effective. 

 After a little work with Cornfield Camouflage traveling to shows, meeting other call makers I decided that the flute call was making way to the short reed. With some effort to learn I began working with Steve Jipp.  Steve and I would work together to create the LJ Magnum goose call. Steve would do the turning and finishing, while I created the sound boards and hand cut reeds. 

I continued to be creative and worked to make my goose call. This the Mother Clucker (trade mark) was born. I started selling them in retail stores in 2000. Since then we have created 8 more goose calls and a hand full of duck calls. 

In July 2012 Ron Wieneke offered me his business but we were unable to agree on a price. In October 2017 I made an offer to a friend of Ron’s who had purchased the business from Ron. The friend had purchased Woods Calls with the idea that Ron would teach them the process of making his calls. Before that could happen Ron passed away and the equipment and patterns sat unused for 5 years. 

 My plan for Woods Calls is to support existing product both for the collector as well as the user. I plan to create select calls from that line and to expand both brands by marrying them in design and function.
